3-Nitrobenzoic Acid · CAS 121-92-6
3-Nitrobenzoic acid forms pale yellow to white crystals — an important aromatic nitro acid intermediate widely used in pharmaceuticals, dyes and photosensitive materials. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether.
It is mainly produced by mixed-acid nitration of benzoic acid, exploiting the meta-directing effect of the nitro group to obtain the meta isomer as the main product, followed by separation and purification to high purity.
