3-Methoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid is a white crystalline powder — a multi-substituted benzoic acid intermediate carrying both methyl and methoxy groups, widely used in pharmaceutical and fine chemical synthesis. Melting point 148-151 °C; slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether and other organic solvents.

It can be produced from o-cresol via methoxylation and carboxylation, or by hydrolysis of 2-methyl-3-methoxybenzonitrile, with high purity and good batch-to-batch consistency.
