Sodium 3-nitrobenzoate

Sodium 3-nitrobenzoate is a white solid, chemically stable at ambient conditions. As the sodium salt of 3-nitrobenzoic acid — an aromatic nitro carboxylate — it is an important organic synthesis and pharmaceutical intermediate. Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from fire sources and strong oxidizers.

Upon acidification it liberates 3-nitrobenzoic acid and can undergo derivatization such as esterification and acyl chlorination; the nitro group can be reduced to an amino group for synthesizing 3-aminobenzoic acid derivatives.
