2-Chlorobenzoyl Chloride · CAS 609-65-4
2-Chlorobenzoyl chloride is a colorless to pale yellow liquid — an important chlorinated aromatic acyl chloride intermediate widely used in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dyes. It is produced from o-chlorobenzoic acid with a chlorinating agent under strict isomer control, and must be stored dry and sealed.
The acyl chloride group undergoes alcoholysis, aminolysis, hydrolysis and Friedel-Crafts acylation — it is the key reagent for introducing the o-chlorobenzoyl group; the ortho chlorine can be further substituted or used to build benzoheterocycles, making it an important intermediate for multi-substituted aromatic drugs.
